Do you remember back in November, when Twitter announced they were increasing their word count from 140 characters to 280?
Remember the outrage it sparked?
Remember how the company was publicly criticized and mocked (causing enough of a fuss for the conversations to trend on Twitter as #Twitter280)?
Well, guess what…
Early data is indicating that people like longer Tweets after all.
In fact, it turns out that tweets over 140 characters are retweeted and liked nearly 2x more than shorter ones…
Who would have guessed!
Other than Twitter, that is…
Obviously this multibillion dollar company wouldn’t have made the risky decision lightly.
It was their internal data, which indicated that people who wrote longer tweets got more followers and were retweeted more often, that drove them to make the change.
Which essentially means it wasn’t a risky decision at all. They had the data to back it up.
This proves that if you have a good insight into what’s working and what’s not, and the data to back it up, then you have the power to give your customers/clients what they want…
Or better yet, what they don’t even know they want.
